About The Author

María Luisa Retana was born in Cuba. She received her B.A. in Spanish and Comparative Literature from the University of California, Riverside. She has worked extensively with children of all ages in scholastic and cultural events as well as in theater. Mrs. Retana lives with her husband and three children in Bisbee, Arizona.

About The Illustrator

Marian Weaver was born in Houston, Texas in 1959. She tended towards an art career early in life, describing herself as an artist by age three. She has spent the last twenty years in the mining town of Bisbee, Arizona, where she has a large piece of scrubby hillside. There she lives with her husband, Jim, and her cat Edna. She spends her spare time gardening, hiking, camping and drawing the outdoors.

About the Translator

Guillermo Retana was born in Chihuahua, México. He teaches at Cochise College in Douglas, Arizona. Guillermo enjoys reading, listening to jazz, writing and gazing at the stars. Mr. Retana says that translating Born Into The Pack/ Nacer en la manada and Tall Tails From a Mountain Slope/Los rabos altos de la ladera was fun and challenging.
